This is my second year teaching and first time at a junior high. I previously taught theatre and English classes for tenth through twelfth grades, and I love being a teacher. I’m excited to get to know the seventh, eighth, and ninth grade students at Ascent Academy.

I grew up in South Lyon, Michigan and later moved to Utah to attend Brigham Young University. During my time there, I worked as a university writing tutor and participated in the theatre department’s productions. I graduated in 2015 with a major in English teaching and a minor in theatre arts education.

I married my high school sweetheart during our studies together at BYU. We have been married five years, and my favorite way to spend my free time is with him—playing tennis, trying a new recipe, hiking, traveling, playing board games, attending plays, and bowling.

English was always my best subject in school. I like sharing and discussing stories, which I believe is central to a fun, fulfilling language arts education. I also enjoy improving my writing and hope to help all of my students feel more confident in their writing abilities.

I love math! I see math in everything around me. I was raised in a family of civil engineers. I have partnered with my brothers in a civil engineering firm for the past 30 years. We have designed over 100 subdivisions in Davis County. We have also designed and provided layout for shopping centers, airports, military facilities, and the Bountiful temple.

Using math and understanding the wonderful way to express it’s uses fascinates me. I have come back to teach and help create a love for math that can open great opportunities for the future. I LOVE teaching math.

I enjoy swimming, fly fishing, hiking, camping, and my six children.

Science is awesome! Ever since I was a kid I would read books about animals, go outside to see what I could find under logs, and explore new places whenever I got the chance. After high school, I received my bachelor’s degree in Biology at Utah Valley University and have enjoyed teaching for the past couple years.

When not at school you can find me spending time with my family, playing sports, gaming and watching movies. I love cars, and if I could, I would drive a Nissan Skyline V Spec (R33).

I look forward to helping my students explore different sciences, pushing themselves and becoming better people.

I am so excited to be joining such a wonderful and devoted staff here at Ascent Academy. Before I was a teacher, I was the lead cook at Ruby River Steakhouse and a newspaper reporter for the Standard Examiner Newspaper in Ogden. I wrote for 16 years, including while I was cooking or teaching.
I received my Bachelor's Degree in English and P.E. from Weber State University and have been teaching for the past six years (two in Weber School District and four in Davis School District). When I'm not teaching, I love to play sports with my two boys, grill just about anything, read a good book and I still love to write.
My wife is a teacher and has been for a number of years, so teaching runs in the family.
I look forward to being able to build on what great things have already taken place here at Ascent Academy and I can't wait to get started in helping students become better writers and to develop a lifelong enjoyment of reading.

"I am so excited for another amazing school year Ascent Academy-Farmington this year, teaching Jr. High drama, film and Spanish as well as continuing my role as our campus' Assessment Director. I am SUPER excited about all the things we will be doing this year in the Drama department, including our two productions of James and the Giant Peach Jr in the Fall, and All Shook Up. in the Spring.

I am California native and with a BA in Theatre Arts Education and a minor in Spanish.  I have visited 40 of our 50 states my and have spent time living overseas in both London, and South America. This summer brought me all over the west coast including Denver, Las Vegas and San Francisco.  I have been teaching for 5 years and love every moment of it.  Theatre has been my passion ever since I was a small child and helping students catch the theatre bug is the best part of my job. When I'm not teaching, directing productions or organizing costumes/props I love to knit, craft and play with my corgi puppy: Bruce.  I am a proud, self-proclaimed “geek” who loves all things Harry Potter (I’ve been to 4 Harry Potter conventions), Disney (“Cars” and “Peter Pan” are my favorites) and Pokemon (Team Valor on Pokemon Go!).
My favorite part about teaching is watching my students succeed both on and off the stage.  I feel the best when they get up and try their hardest.  Watching theatre and performing arts come alive for them is the most exciting part of my year!!"

I am so excited to be teaching at Ascent Academy. This is my 4th year of teaching and I can't imagine doing anything else. I hope that I am able to influence my students for the better, and I hope we can create a fun, learning environment. One of my goals is to make my students fall in love with the subjects I teach! I grew up locally in Layton, but moved to the St. George area for all of my teenage years. I enjoy playing many sports such as, tennis, basketball, baseball, and soccer. I also enjoy hiking, camping, skiing, and most board sports. I love driving my motorcycle and have taken it on a few long trips. I love video games, console and PC. I attended Dixie State College and graduated in 2010 with an Associates of Science. After Dixie, I moved back up to Davis County to complete my Bachelors Degree at Weber State University. I completed my student teaching experience in the St. George area and again, moved up to Davis County to search for a place to settle down. I have a great fiancé- Sydnie, and together we have one daughter named Logan, born in 2015, and she is wonderful!

I am excited to be a part of Ascent Academy teaching health and dance. I enjoy teaching and working with students at the secondary level. For ten years, I was an educator in the Iron and Granite School Districts before making a career change to stay home with my children. Now that my kids are older, I am thrilled to have the opportunity to be back in the classroom. I am looking forward to getting to know the students and guiding them through the educational process.

Outside of teaching, I enjoy spend time with my family, softball and home DIY projects.

Junior High Math

I am so excited to fulfill my dream of teaching. I am very passionate about math. I want to help my students understand that math is really the logic and reasoning behind everything we do.

I grew up in Maryland on a small farm. My dad was an engineer and my mom was a teacher, I grew up believing that I could do math and science and I want my students to feel the same way.

The first time I remember being in Utah was when I was an 18 year old freshman at Brigham Young University. I must have really liked it because 5 kids later we are still here. I love to learn and am always interested in learning how people think and what people know. I graduated with a Computer Science degree from BYU and have worked in that field for many years. I am currently enrolled in classes at Utah State University.

I love reading, it is one of my favorite things to do. I also love to discuss books with others. I have taken French for many years and really enjoy the language. I love nature, I love hiking and doing things with my family. We love visiting the National Parks and the beach. We also enjoy going to Salt Lake Comic Con as a family. My absolutely favorite thing to do is to spend time with my 5 wonderful daughters.

Junior High Art

I was born when my parents, who each have Native American heritage, lived at Aneth, UT on the Navajo Nation. Aneth was an isolated boarding school where my father worked as the principal and my mother a teacher. The children would come to the boarding school beginning at the age of six, and live there for the school year. Water came from a well and had to be heated over a fire; there was no electricity or roads.   It was a day’s travel to town for supplies if the adobe clay was dry or frozen as one could not travel at all if it was wet. We later moved and I was raised on the Ute Mountain Indian Reservation. Our lives were simple, we owned little, but my childhood was full of imagination, exploration, learning and love. Art was an indigenous part of my culture and I learned that there is much beauty in simplicity. I shared my parents with hundreds of little children over the years and learned that love is not finite, but simply expands to encompass all that come within its reach and this adds a deep richness to life. My parents gave me a legacy of the importance of learning for they were willing to sacrifice much to provide an education for the poor and forgotten.

I received my education at the University of Colorado where I studied pre-med with an emphasis in biology, additionally I studied Technical Sales and Service at Weber State University. I have many years of experience in working with children with special needs and they hold an exceptional place in my heart. I have been politically active, having served in a number of capacities, but retired from politics after I served as the mayor of Centerville City and brought in the Marketplace development.

My husband, Jim, and I have six children and fifteen grandchildren. We enjoy hiking, camping, and reading. I additionally enjoy painting, drawing, and other forms of art media and could live in my garden happily ever after.

I deeply believe that no man is an island, but we each build on the foundation that was laid by the influence, effort, and wisdom shared with us through another’s compassion and caring. In this way we really are united as a human family and must give credit to those who helped us become who and what we are for they truly are a part of us. And it is this that makes teaching not just a profession, but a life changing experience. It is this that makes all the difference. I look forward to learning from and serving with each of you and becoming a part of the DREAM TEAM that makes Ascent Academy unique and choice as a learning environment.

I’m excited to learn and grow with the outstanding students and faculty here at Ascent Academy.  In my classes, students will focus on critical thinking and applying life skills to seek the best outcomes.  We tie the subjects we are studying to current events.  Communication skills are taught through every class.  I believe that as we help students do things they will get excited about learning.

I graduated with my bachelor’s degree in Teaching Social Science and with a minor in Teaching English Language Learners from Brigham Young University. I’m working on my master’s degree in theology.  I love teaching in a variety of scenarios. Some of my favorite times teaching have been with the Boy Scouts of America, the Utah Army National Guard, Spanish Fork High School, church, and being a firearms instructor. I enjoy a wide variety of activities including reading, hiking, swing dancing, going shooting, learning more first-aid, and most of all spending time with my wife and two daughters.  I am also a lieutenant in the Utah Army National Guard in the Chaplain Corps.

I'm ecstatic to be a part of the Ascent Academy team of teachers and look forward to getting to know the students and parents we will be serving.
