E’ Komo Mai!! My name is Shawnae (shaw nay) Aiu (eye you) and I am so happy to have your child in my class. You will face new challenges and higher expectations this year as you venture into the 2nd grade. It is my responsibility to help you be successful. I look forward to helping you reach, stretch and learn all that you can this year. I am positive that second grade will be a rewarding and enjoyable year! Here is a little bit about me. I am a founder of another charter school, having spent numerous hours helping build it. I have been a teacher since 2006. I have taught from first to sixth grades. I have been married since 1992 to my husband, Eric. He works at a company that is developing technology that will help our medical field diagnose multiple ailments at a time, it is called Biofire Inc. I have 3 children that are amazing. My oldest is Keoki, works with Eric as a manager, he loves cars and playing video games. My middle is Keana, she is working as a tech lead, also at Biofire. She attends college full-time with a goal to be in something scientific, such as a forensic anthropologist. My baby, Kalea is a hard worker at the famous In & Out Burger. She is a shopper and loves anime. Keoki bought his first home this summer and Keana moved in with him and their roommate. Kalea is planning to live with my husband and I forever. We enjoy family game nights, camping, car races, and eating dinners together. We are from Hawaii and you will notice throughout the year that a few Hawaiian themed activities will happen and words may be shared at home. I am a pet lover, we have 4 dogs, 5 cats, 1 fish, 2 full-size parrots, 2 small size parrots, a ringed neck parakeet, a regular parakeet, and a bearded dragon all living in our home. I am an avid reader and love all kinds of books. I collect salt-n-pepper shakers from all over the world. I think I have a great sense of humor and love to laugh, in fact, a “class rule” is they have to laugh at my jokes. Haha. I have several food allergies and focus my diet on whole foods, no sugars, and green tea frappachinos from Starbucks. I am so truly thankful to have the opportunity to teach and love your child, I feel blessed to be their 2nd-grade teacher!! Cheers to a great year!!
